Challenge

The project required the delivery of competition-grade lighting infrastructure in a remote community setting. Challenges included coordinating with council stakeholders, managing long lead times for custom poles and components, and ensuring compliance with NT building and electrical safety regulations.

Solution

MEC NT delivered the full scope including: 


  • Installation of 4 x 30m lighting towers with 4 x Thorn Trophy floodlights each 


  • Supply and installation of new distribution board and underground conduit/pit reticulation 


  • Installation of 35mm 4c+e cable from existing meter panel to new board, and 16mm 4c+e cable to each pole 


  • Lightning protection via earth stakes at each pole 


  • Terminal strips and individual circuit breakers for each light 


  • Full testing and certification to AS3000 standards 


  • All works were completed with supporting documentation including occupancy permits, builder’s declarations, and concrete strength reports. 

Results

  • Lighting Performance: Delivered high-lux output suitable for AFL and community events 


  • Safety: Compliant installation with lightning protection and certified concrete footings 


  • Efficiency: Delivered within schedule despite long lead times for custom poles 


  • Documentation: Full handover package including compliance certificates and occupancy approvals
