Scope
Electrical and communications infrastructure for a remote youth training facility, including HV works, LV reticulation, solar PV, generator installation, fire detection, security systems, and compliance documentation.
Challenge
Deliver a comprehensive electrical package for a remote youth training centre while managing:
- Long lead times for critical components (substation, switchboards, poles).
- Coordination with multiple stakeholders including NT Government and Power and Water Corporation.
- Compliance with AS/NZS standards and NT Government protocols.
- Indigenous employment targets and remote logistics.
Solution
MEC NT delivered an end-to-end solution comprising:
- HV and LV Reticulation: Excavation, conduits, pits, and cable hauling for mains and submains.
- Switchboards and Protection: Installation of CT meter panel, MDB, and associated protection devices.
- Renewable Integration: 10 kW solar PV system and 60 kVA standby generator for resilience.
- Lighting and Security: Installation of security lighting poles, CCTV, MATV, and access control systems.
- Fire Safety: Addressable fire detection system across all buildings.
- Compliance and Documentation: Certificates of compliance, as-constructed drawings, and PWC connection artefacts.
Results
- Fully commissioned youth training facility with integrated electrical and communications systems.
- Compliance achieved with NT Government and PWC standards.
- Indigenous employment and community engagement targets met.

- Delivered within revised scope and budget following cost escalation management.
