Project Overview

The project involved MEC NT performing a significant upgrade of the electrical infrastructure for Quintis Forestry Limited at their Cossack farms in the Northern Territory. The primary goal was to implement separate metering for each lot, which was necessary because previously, the entire farm operated under a single high-voltage (HV) meter. This change was essential for accurate billing and operational management.

The project involved comprehensive HV and LV upgrades across multiple farm sites, including design, procurement, installation, and commissioning. Works included overhead HV extensions, rectifications and replacement of HV apparatus, LV reticulation, switchboard installations, and compliance documentation to enhance operational reliability and safety. All works were completed in line with PWC standards.

Challenge

The project required upgrading electrical infrastructure across a large agricultural site while maintaining operational continuity. Key challenges included:

  • Coordinating HV and LV works across multiple farm areas without disrupting production.

  • Managing isolations and safety in a live environment.

  • Ensuring compliance with NT electrical standards and client requirements.

  • Delivering works within tight timeframes and budget constraints.

Solution

MEC NT delivered a structured and safe execution plan:

  • Conducted detailed site surveys and planning meetings with Quintis representatives.

  • Installed new HV overhead infrastructure and LV reticulation systems across designated farm areas.

  • Implemented isolation protocols for safe changeovers and electrical testing.

  • Supplied and installed compliant switchboards, cabling, and earthing systems.

  • Coordinated with Power and Water Corporation (PWC) for metering and final connections.

  • Provided full QA documentation, as-constructed drawings, and compliance certifications.

Results

  • Enhanced electrical reliability and capacity across Quintis farms.

  • Improved safety and compliance through structured installations and documentation.

  • Successful integration of HV and LV systems supporting operational efficiency.

  • Delivered on time and within budget, meeting client expectations.
