Project Overview

MEC NT delivered electrical upgrades for the Palmerston Swimming and Leisure Centre (SWELL), supporting a major redevelopment for the City of Palmerston. The scope included electrical reticulation, lighting, CCTV and PA systems, UPS integration, and coordination with shade structure installations.

Challenge

The project required integration of multiple systems—electrical, security, and communications—within a live leisure facility undergoing structural upgrades. Key challenges included coordinating trenching and conduit installation around existing services, managing long-lead items for shade systems and specialist equipment, and ensuring compliance with NT electrical standards and client specifications.

Solution

  • Installation of underground HV reticulation from existing network to new 750KVA package sub-station.
    - Installed new electrical reticulation including conduits, pits, and submains for power and communications cabling.

  • Complete bonding system for all conductive partys of installation.
    - Supplied and commissioned CCTV and PA systems, integrating with existing infrastructure.
    - Upgraded the main switchboard and installed UPS for critical systems.
    - Completed associated electrical work for the associated  shade structure installations.

  • Associated electrical works to facilitate aquatic hydraulic installations in the plant room.

  • Complete fit out of area and feature lighting, including lighting control system.

Results

The redevelopment achieved improved safety, functionality, and amenities for the Palmerston community:

  • Reliable electrical backbone supporting new leisure facilities.

  • Enhanced security through modern CCTV coverage.

  • Integrated PA and UPS systems ensuring operational resilience.

  • Full compliance documentation and as-constructed drawings provided to the client.
