Project Overview

MEC NT currently undertaking the electrical and communications scope for LIA Buildings 2 & 3 at RAAF Base Tindal. The project involves comprehensive electrical civil works, internal and external power and lighting, Substation modifications, switchboards, cable trays, cabling, communications, MATV, NBN and C-Bus integration. Additional variations included underground works for the recreation room, temporary power and lighting, and electrical fit-out for the recreation room.

Challenge

The project required delivering complex electrical infrastructure across multiple new buildings within a secure defence environment. Challenges included:

  • Coordinating works in a high-security location with strict access protocols.

  • Managing concurrent civil and electrical activities to maintain schedule.

  • Integrating multiple systems (power, lighting, MATV, NBN & C-Bus) while ensuring compliance with defence standards.

  • Addressing variations and design changes during execution without impacting critical milestones.

Solution

MEC NT delivered a structured and compliant solution:

  • Executed electrical civil works, external and internal power and lighting installations.

  • Installed switchboards, cable trays, cabling, communications systems, MATV, and C-Bus automation.

  • Managed variations including underground works and recreation room electrical fit-out.

  • Applied rigorous QA processes, progress tracking, and stakeholder coordination to meet defence requirements.

Results

  • Successful delivery of electrical and communications infrastructure for LIA Buildings 2 & 3.

  • Enhanced operational capability through integrated systems and compliant installations.

  • Maintained project schedule despite variations and complex site conditions.

  • Provided full documentation and handover packages supporting ongoing maintenance.
