Project Overview

MEC NT delivered the site wide electrical and communications infrastructure for the Kangaroo Flats Training Area (KFTA) under Work Package 301. This project established essential services to support new range facilities, including high-voltage power distribution, kiosk substations, underground cabling, and communications systems. The scope encompassed design, installation, testing, and commissioning of all electrical and communications infrastructure to meet Defence standards.

Challenge

  • Delivering extensive electrical and communications infrastructure across a large Defence training area.

  • Managing logistics and installation in a remote location with strict security and compliance requirements.

  • Coordinating multiple stakeholders and adhering to Defence standards for electrical and communications systems.

  • Ensuring timely completion while addressing environmental and operational constraints.

Solution

  • Installed high-voltage overhead and underground power lines, including kiosk substations and HV underground cables.

  • Implemented electrical reticulation and integrated communications pits, conduits, and fiber cabling for secure connectivity.

  • Applied structured QA processes, including ITPs, inspections, and compliance documentation throughout the project.

  • Managed procurement, logistics, and on-site execution to meet schedule and quality benchmarks.

  • Delivered full as-constructed drawings and operational manuals for long-term maintenance and assurance.

Results

  • Established reliable electrical and communications infrastructure supporting Defence training operations.

  • Enhanced site capability with compliant HV and communications systems, enabling future expansion and operational resilience.

  • Provided comprehensive documentation and training resources to ensure ongoing compliance and safety.
