Project Overview
MEC NT was engaged by the West Arnhem Regional Council to deliver the reconductoring of overhead power lines in Gunbalanya, NT. The project included the supply and installation of new Ariel conductors, associated hardware, and the integration of safety and compliance measures to ensure reliable power distribution for the local community. All works were completed in 2024, with compliance documentation and handover certificates provided to the client.
Challenge
- The project presented several challenges typical of remote regional works:
- Logistical complexities in transporting materials and personnel to Gunbalanya.
- Ensuring all works met Power and Water Corporation standards and NT electrical safety regulations.
- Coordinating with local stakeholders to minimise disruption and ensure community safety.
- Managing environmental and weather-related risks during the installation phase.
Solution
MEC NT delivered a turnkey solution that included:
- Detailed planning and scheduling to optimise mobilisation and minimise on-site time.
- Supply and installation of new overhead conductors and associated hardware, with all works performed in accordance with Power and Water Corporation requirements.
- Implementation of robust safety management plans, including Job Safety & Environmental Analysis (JSEA) and Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) for all high-risk activities.
- Comprehensive testing, commissioning, and certification of the upgraded network, with all compliance documentation provided to the client.
Results
- Successful upgrade and Ariel reconductoring of the Gunbalanya Overhead power network, ensuring improved reliability and safety for the community.
- All works completed within the agreed timeframe and budget, with minimal disruption to local residents.
- Handover of a fully compliant and certified installation, supporting ongoing operations and maintenance for the client.
