Project Overview


MEC NT undertook the design, supply, and installation of electrical and safety systems for the Borroloola Cyclone Shelter in Borroloola, NT. The project aimed to deliver a robust, compliant facility capable of supporting community safety during severe weather events.

Challenge


  • Delivering electrical and safety upgrades in a remote location with challenging logistics and access. 


  • Coordinating civil works, building rough-in, and lightning protection under tight timelines and variable weather conditions. 


  • Ensuring compliance with NT safety and construction standards.

Solution


  • Installed new electrical reticulation, including generator and fuel tank systems, with all gear mobilised to site. 


  • Managed civil works and building rough-in. 


  • Implemented lightning protection and earthing systems, with drilling and installation scheduled as per project milestones. 


  • Addressed RFIs for technical clarifications, including upgrades to existing distribution boards and compliance with electrical standards.

Results


  • The cyclone shelter achieved significant progress in fit-out and civil works, with all major equipment delivered and installed. 


  • Enhanced safety and resilience for the Borroloola community during cyclone events. 


  • Full documentation and compliance with NT regulations, supporting ongoing operations and maintenance.
