Project Overview

MEC NT was engaged by BMD to deliver the electrical, streetlighting, and NBN reticulation for the new Heights Subdivision in Palmerston, NT. The project involved the design, supply, and installation of a comprehensive electrical infrastructure to support a new residential development, including a 500kVA substation, streetlighting, and park lighting systems.

Challenge

  • Coordinating installation works with ongoing civil construction and roadworks 


  • Ensuring compliance with Power and Water Corporation (PWC) standards for substations, earthing, and cabling 


  • Managing logistics for the installation of multiple lighting and power assets across a large site 


  • Delivering the project within tight timelines to align with the broader development schedule

Solution

  • Installation of a 500kVA MK3 package substation and base, with RMU earthing to PWC standards 


  • Laying of 11kV 240mm aluminium XLPE/NJ cable in 150mm HD conduit, and 70mm bare earthing 


  • Installation of LV pillars, RODP for streetlight feed, and both Type 2 and Type 4 pits as per design 


  • Erection of 17 streetlights and 13 park lights, with all pole footings and cages installed in coordination with BMD’s civil works 


  • Provision of park lighting circuits, MSBs, and subcircuits for irrigation controllers 


  • All conduits installed with draw ropes and sealed, with final connections by PWC

Results

  • Successful energisation of the new subdivision with reliable, compliant electrical infrastructure 


  • Enhanced public amenity and safety through modern street and park lighting 


  • Seamless integration of NBN and electrical services, supporting future community growth 


  • Project delivered on schedule, supporting BMD’s development timeline
